The Garfagnana along with the Apuan Alps – and their marble peaks – and the Tosco-Emiliano Apennines – and its forests – can be biked from March to October. During this period, you can ride through extraordinary areas that offer a great variety of views and satisfy the desires of cyclists who love to climb steep and uncontaminated mountainsides as well as those who love easier itineraries.
As proof of this great variety, Garfagnana is home to some of the highest peaks in Tuscany, such as Monte Prato, at 2,054 meters (6,738 feet) above sea level, as well as some of the largest lakes, grottoes, caverns and abysses in Europe. The Apuan Alps Regional Park, a geopark protected by UNESCO since 2012, is also located here.
This area also has a long popular tradition and legends and its culinary customs include many local products to taste at every bike tour stop.
